Vodafone Idea (Vi) announced on September 26, 2026, that it is including free international roaming (IR) benefits with a range of its plans, aiming to simplify international travel for its customers. The new offering, which Vi says will save users up to Rs 9,000 per year, applies to postpaid plans starting at Rs 501, annual prepaid unlimited data plans, and enterprise plans beginning at Rs 451.
A New Approach to International Connectivity
The telecom operator is framing the move as a shift away from the traditional hassles of international travel connectivity – juggling SIM cards, purchasing local SIMs, or relying on potentially insecure public Wi-Fi. According to Avneesh Khosla, Vi’s Chief Marketing Officer, the company is moving from a model of “buy roaming when you travel” to one where “your Vi number travels with you for free”. This initiative is part of Vi’s broader “Vi Pe Sab Hain VIP” branding, intended to signal a commitment to customer value.
Prepaid Plan Details
Vi’s prepaid customers with eligible daily data and Non Stop Hero annual plans can claim one complimentary IR benefit during their plan’s validity through the Vi App. The specific benefits available vary by circle, and customers are advised to check the Vi website for plans available in their region. Generally, the benefits include:
- 1GB Data for 5 Days & 50 Minutes (Incoming & Outgoing): Available in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Chennai, Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Kolkata, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra & Goa, Mumbai, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, UP East, UP West, and West Bengal.
- 5GB Data for 5 Days & 50 Minutes (Incoming & Outgoing): Available in Himachal Pradesh (with Unlimited Data plans), Odisha (with Unlimited Data plans), and in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar, Delhi, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan (with 2GB/day plans).

Regional Limitations
Currently, the free international roaming benefits are not available in Assam, Jammu and Kashmir, and the North East regions of India. Vi has indicated this on its website.
Postpaid and Enterprise Plans
In addition to prepaid options, Vi’s postpaid plans (starting at Rs 501) and enterprise plans (starting at Rs 451) also include free international roaming benefits. These plans can offer up to three free trips per year, with varying data allowances and outgoing minute quotas.
