OnePlus has confirmed its next flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 16 5G, will launch in China on October 12, 2026. The announcement came during the OnePlus Gaming Conference 2026, with OnePlus China president Li Jie Louis revealing the date.
Gaming at the Forefront
The OnePlus 16 5G is being heavily marketed around its gaming capabilities. The device will feature a new generation Fengchi Gaming Kernel, designed to optimise hardware resource allocation across the phone. OnePlus claims this will allow for sustained gaming at 185fps. A newly developed, self-developed three-chip esports system will also handle touch response, networking, and display processing, with the company promising improvements to connection stability, visual clarity, and touch responsiveness.
OnePlus has specifically highlighted that titles like Arena Breakout, Peace Elite, Nizhan: Future, and Naruto Mobile will be capable of running at 185fps for extended periods on the OnePlus 16.
Specifications and Software
The OnePlus 16 5G will ship with ColorOS 17, built on top of Android 17. Powering the device will be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset – Qualcomm’s most powerful chip to date, fabricated on a 2nm process.
Camera Details
The OnePlus 16 will also feature a sophisticated camera system, including a 200MP main sensor and a 50MP periscope telephoto sensor. An ultra-wide-angle sensor will complete the rear camera array.
India Launch Unlikely
Despite being a flagship device, the OnePlus 16 5G is not expected to launch in India. According to the company, rising memory costs have made a full launch economically unviable, as the resulting price point would likely hinder sales. Instead, OnePlus plans to release the OnePlus 16R 5G as its top-tier offering in the Indian market in 2026.
