Amazon has launched Alexa+, an upgraded voice assistant powered by artificial intelligence, in India. Unusually, the company is making Alexa+ available for free to all users in the country, marking a global first for the integration of Alexa+ with Amazon’s services.
Free Access and Prime Benefits
Currently in early access, Indian users can access the enhanced features of Alexa+ without a subscription. Amazon has stated that Prime members will continue to have access to Alexa+ at no additional cost even after the early access period concludes.
Enhanced Capabilities and Language Support
Alexa+ is designed to offer more natural and seamless conversations. The AI assistant is able to understand complex requests and maintain context across multiple interactions, eliminating the need for users to repeat information. It will also record and understand user preferences. Initially, Alexa+ understands both Hindi and Hinglish, with support for additional languages planned as the AI model continues to develop.
Shopping Integration
Amazon is integrating Alexa+ directly with its shopping platform. The assistant can understand user needs and add relevant products to their shopping cart. However, users will still need to complete the order themselves; Alexa+ is not yet capable of independently processing purchases.
Availability on New Devices
The next generation of Fire and Echo devices from Amazon will ship with Alexa+ pre-installed, offering users an immediate upgrade to the AI-powered assistant.
