Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G in India, positioning it as the mid-range option within the latest Redmi Note 17 series ā sitting between the Redmi Note 17 5G and the higher-spec Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G.
Pricing and Variants
The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G is available in two configurations:
- 8GB RAM + 128GB storage: Rs 36,999
- 8GB RAM + 256GB storage: Rs 39,999
Design and Build
The device features a 6.83-inch display with nearly symmetrical bezels and a flat frame. While the design aims for a premium look, the phone utilizes a plastic back. It comes in Purple, Black, and Blue color options. The right side houses the power and volume buttons, while the top includes speakers and an IR blaster for remote control functionality. A USB Type-C port and SIM card slot are located on the bottom.
Key Features and Limitations
Xiaomi is heavily emphasizing the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5Gās battery life and durability. The phone boasts a substantial 9000mAh battery and is rated for IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K water and dust resistance. The rear camera setup includes a 50MP sensor, though details on the front and secondary rear cameras were not highlighted during the launch event.
However, the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G has some notable limitations. It lacks support for 4K video recording, a surprising omission given its price point of over Rs 35,000. Furthermore, 60fps recording is also unavailable even at 1080p resolution, based on observations from the demo units.
Software Support
Despite the camera limitations, Xiaomi promises strong software support, with four years of OS updates and six years of security updates. Initial impressions suggest the phone excels in battery performance and long-term software maintenance, but further evaluation is needed to assess its overall value.
