OnePlus 16R 5G to Lead Flagship Push in India

OnePlus appears to be recalibrating its strategy for the Indian market, with the OnePlus 16R 5G poised to become the company’s next major phone release there, according to tipster Yogesh Brar.

Shift in Focus

Recent developments suggest the planned launch of the OnePlus 16 in India is likely cancelled. Instead, the company may reserve the OnePlus 16 exclusively for the Chinese market, while the OnePlus 16R could see a wider international release. However, neither model is expected to arrive in Europe or North America.

Rising Costs and Market Conditions

The decision to prioritize the 16R is reportedly linked to increasing component and RAM costs, which are driving up the potential price of flagship devices. The OnePlus 16, slated for a 2026 release, could become prohibitively expensive for many Indian consumers. This follows a trend of increasing prices; the OnePlus 15 with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage currently retails for Rs 85,999, while the OnePlus 15R with the same RAM and storage is priced at Rs 59,999.

N Series Success and Pricing Strategy

OnePlus has been concentrating on its more affordable N series in India, launching three devices this year: the OnePlus N6, OnePlus N6x, and OnePlus N6 Lite. This focus is aimed at boosting sales and gaining market share. The OnePlus 16R 5G is anticipated to be priced around Rs 60,000, or potentially higher, aligning with the price points currently accepted by OnePlus customers in India. OnePlus reportedly believes launching the more expensive OnePlus 16 would be a risky test of the Indian market, which has proven challenging recently.
