Reliance Jio has introduced JioMeals, a food-ordering application currently available only to employees at Reliance Corporate Park (RCP). The app distinguishes itself through the integration of Rio AI, an artificial intelligence assistant designed to provide personalised food recommendations, and a commitment to transparent pricing.
Rio AI Drives Food Discovery
A key feature of JioMeals is Rio, described in the Google Play Store listing as an “AI companion”. According to screenshots, users can interact with Rio when they are unsure what to order; the AI then presents suggestions including restaurant name, price, customer rating, and estimated delivery time. Users can add recommended dishes directly to their order through the interface. Reliance Jio has not disclosed details about the AI model powering Rio or how its recommendations are generated.
Transparent Pricing and Customisation
JioMeals promises restaurant-rate pricing with no platform fees or hidden charges. The app states that participating restaurants set their own prices, and JioMeals does not add any markups. Employees can search restaurants, filter by dietary preference (vegetarian, egg, or non-vegetarian), and customise dishes with specific instructions. They can also adjust quantities and request cutlery during checkout.
Real-Time Tracking and Order Management
The app provides real-time order tracking, displaying the delivery partner’s name, expected arrival time, and location on a map. Employees can also contact the delivery partner directly through the app. JioMeals also offers personalised suggestions based on past orders and prompts users to reorder favourite dishes.
Limited Availability
Currently, JioMeals is not positioned as a competitor to established food delivery services like Swiggy and Zomato. Screenshots on the Google Play Store listing explicitly state the application is “for RCP employees only,” and Jio has not announced any plans to expand its availability to the general public. The company has not disclosed the number of participating restaurants or order volume.
Despite its limited scope, JioMeals showcases Jio’s exploration of AI and transparent pricing models within its digital ecosystem.
