Vodafone Idea (Vi) is streamlining international travel for its customers by integrating roaming benefits directly into select plans, eliminating the need for separate add-on packs. The telecom operator says the new offering is designed for individual, family, and business travellers who want to maintain connectivity using their existing Indian mobile number while abroad.
Plan Details and Eligibility
The bundled international roaming is available on postpaid plans starting at Rs 501 per month, as well as select annual unlimited data prepaid plans. Enterprise customers can access the benefit with plans beginning at Rs 451. According to Vi, eligible customers can use their number in over 170 countries without incurring additional roaming charges, up to a certain allowance which varies by plan.
The number of trips covered by the benefit also depends on the specific plan, with a maximum allowance of up to three trips per year. Vi stresses that data allowances and outgoing call minutes will differ depending on the chosen plan.
Savings and Accessing the Benefit
Vi claims the new feature could potentially save customers up to Rs 9,000 annually, although this figure is an estimate and actual savings will vary based on individual usage and travel patterns. The company highlights that this is a significant benefit for those who frequently travel internationally.
Customers can access the Roam-Free benefit through the Vi app. Vi advises users to check their plan’s eligibility, confirm destination coverage, and review included data and call allowances before travelling. Avneesh Khosla, Chief Marketing Officer at Vi, said the company aimed to make international roaming a standard inclusion in key plans, rather than an extra expense for travellers. The launch is supported by a new advertising campaign featuring Shah Rukh Khan.
