OPPO has officially released ColorOS 17, its newest operating system built on Android 17, initially for the Chinese market. The launch marks a significant shift, as OPPO intends to extend ColorOS beyond its own devices to include select models from OnePlus and Realme, not only in China but also in India.
Broader Availability for OnePlus and Realme Users
Notably, devices from OnePlus and Realme that are slated to receive the Android 17 update globally will also benefit from the ColorOS 17 experience. This expanded availability represents a change in strategy for OPPO, bringing its software ecosystem to a wider range of users.
Fluid Design and Performance Enhancements
ColorOS 17 is designed around a more fluid user interface, reportedly taking inspiration from the aesthetic of iPhones. The new OS will incorporate all the features announced by Google for Android 17. Key performance improvements are driven by two new engines:
- Polar Light Engine: This is designed to reduce app load times by up to 25%.
- Tidal Engine: This engine aims to improve background app stability by approximately 55.6%.
The Polar Light Engine also reduces rendering workload by roughly one-third, or 30%.
AI-Powered Features with OPPOAI
ColorOS 17 introduces OPPOAI, featuring an upgraded Xiaobu AI assistant. This includes several new features:
- Xiaobu Space: A dedicated area for the AI assistant.
- Xiaobu Calls Tool: Enhancements to call functionality with AI integration.
- Xiaobu and ME Section: A personalized section for user interaction.
- Xiaobu Memory: Offers AI-powered one-click memory flash capabilities.
Furthermore, the Photos app will gain an AI Retoucher function, and the AI Notes tool has been redesigned with one-tap sharing and inspiration cards.
Rollout Schedule
The OPPO Find N6 is scheduled to receive the ColorOS 17 update on October 8, 2026. On the same date, the OPPO Find X9 series, OnePlus 15T, and Realme GT 8 Pro will also be updated. Additional devices are expected to follow throughout the month.
