Xiaomi has unveiled the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G, a new smartphone focused on extended battery life and durability. While sharing similarities with the recently launched Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G, the Max variant distinguishes itself with a significantly larger battery and enhanced features.
Design and Build Quality
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G maintains a familiar design language to its sibling, featuring a SIM card slot, Type-C port, and speaker grille at the bottom. The device incorporates volume rockers and a power button on the right side, with an IR sensor positioned at the top. The rear camera island houses a dual-camera setup alongside a flash, highlighting the 50MP OIS camera. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, capable of withstanding drops from up to 3 meters. While the frame utilises plastic, select variants offer a fiberglass-infused body for increased resistance.
Display and Durability
The phone boasts a 6.83-inch AMOLED display supporting a 1.5K resolution and a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The display is capable of reaching a peak brightness of 3500nits and a high brightness of 2000nits, and also supports 12-bit colour depth, a 240Hz touch sampling rate, and 3200Hz instant touch sampling rate for gaming. Xiaomi has also focused on durability, with the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G achieving IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for water and dust resistance. The company demonstrated the phone’s underwater photography capabilities at the launch event.
Camera and Performance
The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G features a dual-camera system comprising a 50MP AI OIS primary sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens. Unlike the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G, it supports 4K video recording at 30fps, alongside 1080p recording at 60fps, and offers up to 20x digital zoom. Powering the device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 SoC. Xiaomi promises four years of OS updates and six years of security patches. The RAM is expandable up to 24GB.
Battery and Pricing
The standout feature of the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G is its massive 10000mAh battery, supported by 100W wired fast-charging and 27W reverse wired charging. Xiaomi claims the battery will retain its health for six years, supporting up to 1600 charge cycles. The device is also rated for submersion up to 2 meters for 72 hours.
