Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market, the iPhone Duo, will rely on Samsung Display for its inner folding display. The two companies have signed a three-year contract for Samsung to supply the panels, which will begin shipping on October 23, 2026, with pre-orders available now.
iPhone Duo Display Details
The iPhone Duo, launching at Rs 2,99,900 for the base model, will utilize Samsung’s M16 OLED material for its inner display. According to reports, Apple selected the M16 material due to its superior brightness, power efficiency, and durability – all critical factors meeting Apple’s stringent standards. The A20 Pro chipset powers the device, and it features dual rear cameras alongside dual selfie cameras, one for the inner and one for the outer display.
Cost of the Display
Each inner folding display panel is expected to cost Apple $250, equivalent to approximately Rs 24,000. This makes the inner display the most expensive single component within the iPhone Duo. It’s important to note that this price applies specifically to the folding panel itself and does not include the cost of the outer display.
Repair Considerations
While the $250 figure represents the panel cost, the final price for an inner display repair is likely to be higher. Additional expenses such as shipping, handling, and labour will add to the overall cost, and the contract does not confirm whether those costs will remain consistent with the initial panel price.
Samsung’s Role and Competition
Samsung Display has a strong track record as a leading supplier of smartphone and TV panels, and has previously provided displays for other Apple products, including the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max (at $70 per panel in a joint deal with LG). While other companies like LG and BOE are also involved in the foldable display market, Apple chose Samsung due to concerns regarding reliability and durability. LG has not yet begun manufacturing foldable displays, while BOE currently supplies materials to manufacturers like Huawei.
