Apple Pay Arrives in India with Axis Bank Support

After years of anticipation, Apple Pay has officially launched in India. The service is rolling out in partnership with Axis Bank, allowing customers to make secure and private payments using their Apple devices.

Initial Availability and Supported Cards

For now, Apple Pay support is limited to Axis Bank-issued Visa and Mastercard credit cards. Users with these cards can utilise the service at thousands of in-store and online merchants throughout India, as well as any location accepting NFC transactions. Apple stated that it expects to add support for more banks in the near future.

Seamless and Secure Transactions

Apple Pay is available for use with iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch in India, with Mac support coming soon. The technology enables users to pay across stores, in apps, and on the web without needing to enter PINs or one-time passwords (OTPs) at checkout.

A key focus of Apple Pay is security and privacy. According to Apple, actual card numbers are never stored on the device or Apple’s servers, and merchants do not have access to this information. Furthermore, Apple does not retain transaction details. Users can also leverage the Find My app to locate lost devices or suspend payments remotely.

Setting Up Apple Pay in India

To begin using Apple Pay in India, customers can add an eligible Axis Bank card directly through the latest version of the Axis Bank app. Alternatively, users can open the Wallet app on their iPhone, tap the plus sign, and follow the on-screen instructions to add their card.
