Samsung is reportedly already testing its next-generation Galaxy S27 Ultra 5G, with a launch currently slated for February 2027. The focus of this early development appears to be the integration of the new Exynos 2700 chipset, a system-on-chip (SoC) built on a 2nm process.
Exynos 2700: A Return to In-House Power
The Exynos 2700 is expected to launch in December 2026, and Samsung is positioning it to compete directly with leading chipsets from rivals like Apple, Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Google. Specifically, the Exynos 2700 aims to challenge Apple’s A20 chipset, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro, and the Google Tensor G6 found in the Pixel 11 lineup. While detailed benchmark results are not yet available, testing reportedly covers CPU, GPU, and NPU performance, and early indications suggest it will outperform the recently launched Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.
Display and Design Improvements
Beyond the processor, Samsung is planning further upgrades for the S27 series. The entire Galaxy S27 lineup – including the standard S27, S27 Plus, S27 Pro, and S27 Ultra – will utilise Samsung’s own M16 OLED display material. This new material promises improved colour reproduction and higher peak brightness, while maintaining efficient power consumption, as seen in the recently launched iQOO 16. Design changes are also on the horizon, with renders revealing a new camera housing for the S27 Ultra and S27 Pro, featuring a pill-shaped module alongside a dual-vertical camera arrangement within a rectangular frame.
Pricing Expectations
According to tipster Anthony, the Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to see a price increase of $100 compared to its predecessor. The S27 Ultra is speculated to start at $1399 in the USA, up from the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s launch price of $1299. The Galaxy S27 Pro is expected to maintain the same launch price as the S26 Ultra.
This move suggests Samsung is returning to a strategy of leveraging its own Exynos chips to manage costs and maintain competitiveness, particularly against Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro models.
