Motorola has taken the lead in smartphone processing power with the launch of the Signature 27, the first device to incorporate Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. The unveiling took place at Qualcomm Summit 2026, positioning Motorola ahead of competitors like Samsung – whose Galaxy S26 is also expected to utilise a 2nm chipset – and Apple, with its iPhone 18 Pro models.
Next-Generation Performance
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, built on a 2nm architecture, promises significant gains in both performance and efficiency. This new chipset allows the Signature 27 to compete directly with devices powered by Apple’s A20 Pro, according to the announcement.
Camera and Display Innovations
Beyond the processor, the Signature 27 boasts a high-end camera system. It features a triple-lens rear camera setup, including a 50MP Sony LYTIA 910 main sensor, a 200MP periscope telephoto lens, and an ultra-wide-angle sensor. The device also incorporates a circular ring flash and B&O audio branding on the rear.
The phone’s display is a 6.8-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with a smooth 165Hz refresh rate, featuring a single punch-hole selfie camera. It also supports Dolby Vision video for an enhanced viewing experience.
AI-Powered Features and Software
Motorola is integrating artificial intelligence into the Signature 27 experience through Google Gemini’s Omni model. This enables features like video creation from prompts, photos, or existing footage, as well as original music generation with Lyria. The AI is also integrated into the camera app to enhance photos and videos.
The Signature 27 will ship with MotoOS, based on Android 17, offering a clean user interface without bloatware. Motorola is committing to a substantial 7 years of OS and security patch updates for the device.
Audio Excellence and Design
Motorola has partnered with Bang & Olufsen (B&O) for an upgraded audio system, integrated into the Signature 27. This multi-year partnership aims to deliver a superior sound experience. The phone will be available in two colour variants: PANTONE Coal Smoke and PANTONE Capulet Olive.
Availability
The Motorola Signature 27 is slated for release globally by the end of 2026, though specific launch dates and availability in markets like India have not yet been confirmed.
