Airtel Cloud, launched in August 2025 by Bharti Airtel’s digital subsidiary Xtelify, is experiencing growing adoption among Indian enterprises, with approximately 40 customers secured within a year, according to a report by PTI citing sources. The platform, designed as a sovereign, telco-grade cloud solution, was initially developed to handle Airtel’s own substantial digital operations – reportedly processing 1.4 billion transactions per minute.
Manufacturing Sector Drives Growth
The cloud platform is seeing particular success within the manufacturing sector, which now represents nearly 25% of its customer base. This translates to roughly 10 customers, based on the reported total of around 40, although Airtel has not officially disclosed a sector-wise breakdown. VE Commercial Vehicles is reportedly among the manufacturing companies utilizing Airtel Cloud, sources familiar with the matter have indicated to PTI.
This demand from manufacturers is being fuelled by the increasing need for connected machinery, automation, industrial sensors, and AI analytics. These technologies generate significant data volumes requiring robust computing and storage infrastructure. Cloud platforms facilitate the integration of legacy systems, production applications, and supply chain management tools, while also providing the capacity for advanced automation and data analysis.
Expanding Service Portfolio
Airtel Cloud offers a range of services designed to meet enterprise needs, including:
- Infrastructure and connectivity
- Automated backup and data replication
- Disaster recovery capabilities
- Storage-as-a-service
- Video surveillance-as-a-service
During Bharti Airtel’s Q1 FY27 earnings call, Executive Vice Chairman Gopal Vittal stated the platform had added 11 customers during the quarter, bringing the total to 33. The recent report suggests approximately seven further additions since that disclosure.
Sovereign Cloud Opportunities on the Horizon
Airtel is also focusing on larger opportunities within regulated industries and the public sector, where demand for sovereign cloud solutions – designed to maintain domestic control over data and infrastructure – is growing. Vittal indicated that securing the necessary certifications for these sensitive workloads will be a key focus for future growth. The platform enables enterprises to scale AI and digital applications while addressing data-residency, security, and compliance requirements.
