OnePlus 16 to Pack 9000mAh Battery, New Snapdragon Chip

OnePlus is gearing up to challenge Apple and Samsung with its forthcoming OnePlus 16, and early details point to substantial upgrades across key components. While the company prepares for its first-ever October 12, 2026 launch in China, information about the device is beginning to surface.

Power and Performance

At the heart of the OnePlus 16 will be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset. A leaked teaser image, as reported by several sources, indicates the chipset achieved a benchmark score of around 56,33,288 points – a considerable leap forward in performance compared to the previous generation. This new Snapdragon processor is built on a 2nm process, mirroring the A20 Pro chipset expected in the Apple iPhone 18 Pro.

Extended Battery Life

One of the most significant improvements will be in battery capacity. The OnePlus 16 is expected to house a 9000mAh silicon-carbon battery, a substantial increase from the 7,300mAh battery found in the OnePlus 15. Combined with the efficiency gains of the 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, this larger battery promises a significant boost in battery life.

Camera System Overhaul

OnePlus is also addressing past criticisms of its camera performance. The OnePlus 16 is tipped to feature a major camera hardware upgrade, headlined by a 200MP main LUMO sensor. This will be complemented by a 50MP periscope telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 116-degree field of view.

Further enhancements include a 6.78-inch 1.5K BOE X4 LTPO OLED display with a fast 185Hz refresh rate, and luminescent lighting effects on the rear panel inspired by celestial bodies. The device is positioned to compete directly with the Apple iPhone 18 Pro, which reportedly scored around 34,34,654 points on Geekbench 6, and Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 models. While pricing remains unconfirmed, the OnePlus 16 could gain an edge if it undercuts the iPhone 18 Pro’s starting price of Rs 1,64,900.
